See the Dynamics Behind Complex Systems

Many important systems are nonlinear: their future behavior cannot be understood by looking at one variable or one moment in time. AIMdyn uses Koopman-based modeling to turn time-series observations into structured, interpretable models that support forecasting, monitoring, and decision-making.

System Dynamics Overview

Complex behavior requires more than a static model

Physical, operational, and digital systems do not simply produce isolated outputs. Their behavior evolves over time, responds to changing conditions, and can shift between operating regimes. This is true for equipment, networks, vehicles, energy assets, biological processes, and learning systems.

Traditional approaches can struggle when the underlying dynamics are nonlinear, when the governing equations are incomplete, or when the available evidence is a stream of observations rather than a fully specified physical model. AIMdyn’s Koopman-based approach is designed for this setting: it learns from how a system changes, not just from a static description of what it looks like.

What is Koopman modeling?

Koopman modeling is a way to study nonlinear dynamical systems and time-series data through a transformed set of observable features.

Rather than requiring the original system to be linear, the approach represents its evolving behavior in a space where the dynamics can be approximated with linear tools. This enables the use of established linear-system techniques for analyzing, predicting, and controlling nonlinear systems.

That structure matters because it can make complicated behavior easier to inspect, compare, and use. A Koopman-based model can reveal recurring patterns, identify meaningful dynamic modes, and support forecasts that remain tied to the system’s time-dependent behavior.

METHODOLOGY

From observations to a dynamic model

A rigorous, four-stage analytical pipeline converting high-dimensional complex datasets into robust geometric models.

01

Observe the system

Use sensor data, operational histories, simulations, or other time-series measurements to capture how the system changes under real conditions.

02

Identify dynamic structure

Construct a Koopman-based model that captures dominant dynamic patterns, modes, and relationships describing the system’s evolution.

03

Analyze and predict

Use the model to estimate future behavior, compare operating regimes, and detect or predict deviations from expected dynamics.

04

Inform decisions

Apply those insights to monitoring, planning, digital-twin workflows, or control strategies, depending on the application and available data.

Core Capabilities

What Koopman-based models make possible

Koopman-based models can support forecasting, optimization, and control of nonlinear systems.

Forecast behavior over time

Identify and map complex trajectories over extended periods to forecast how nonlinear systems are likely to evolve over time.

Detect and forecast deviations from expected behavior

Compare observed behavior with expected dynamics to help identify anomalies, emerging faults, or regime shifts that may not be obvious from static thresholds alone.

Create predictive digital twins

Design continuous-time, data-driven digital twins that simulate complex behavior patterns at a low computational cost. These models can support scenario analysis, prediction, and operational understanding.

Support control and optimization

Use a structured model of the system’s dynamics as a basis for evaluating decisions and, where appropriate, designing practical control strategies. For applications where the data and objective support it, Koopman-based models can inform established approaches such as linear-quadratic regulation or model predictive control.

Why AIMdyn’s approach

Built for nonlinear systems

Most real-world physical and industrial processes are fundamentally nonlinear. Our mathematical framework handles extreme complexity without forced linear approximations, preserving critical state-space behaviors.

Data-driven, with structure

The approach can learn from observed data while preserving a model-based view of system evolution. AIMdyn’s models can also incorporate physical understanding where it is available, making them useful when first-principles models are incomplete, expensive to build, or difficult to update.

Designed for interpretation

The goal is not forecasting alone. AIMdyn uses dynamic models to help teams understand what is changing, why it matters, and which next decisions deserve attention, rather than relying solely on black-box predictions.

Efficient enough for practical deployment

AIMdyn’s Koopman-based methods are designed for computational efficiency, enabling sophisticated modeling and prediction algorithms to run on standard CPUs for most applications.
